Boks Hang On

South Africa survived a late Irish onslaught to end up 23-21 winners against Ireland in the Aviva Stadium tonight.
They looked to be cruising to a comfortable victory when Gio Apian scathed through for a try in the 64th minute to send his side into a 23-9 lead but the double substitution immediately afterwards of Ronan O'Gara and Peter Stringer for Jonny Sexton and Eoin Reddan had immediate effect.
Swift ball from Stringer at the base of the Ireland scrum allowed O'Gara deliver the perfect crossfield kick for Tommy Bowe to gather and score under the posts and the Munster out-half, winning his 100th Ireland cap added the points.
Then with seven minutes remaining O'Gara again delivered the goods, Rob Kearney the beneficiary to score wide on the right, O'Gara's conversion coming back off the upright to deny Ireland a share of the spoils.
