Historic Win in Thomond Park

Munster record a historic victory in Thomond Park, defeating Australia 15-6 on a cold, wet and windy Tuesday night in Thomond Park.

Two penalties from Berrick Barnes and a drop goal and penalty from Paul Warwick had Munster and Australia tied six points apiece at Thomond Park Stadium at half-time.

In miserable conditions with the elements at his back Barnes opened the scoring with a penalty after just three minutes. Warwick leveled with a drop goal three minutes later.

Barnes kicked his second penalty in the 29th minute but Warwick leveled again with a penalty after a period of Munster pressure when the Australians had been reduced to 14 when Anthony Faingaa was yellow carded.

Warwick added a further two penalties and a dropgoal in the second half giving Munster a well deserved 15-6 win against Australia, a historic first for the Limerick stadium.

Munster: Johne Murphy, Doug Howlett, Keith Earls, Sam Tuitupou, Denis Hurley, Paul Warwick, Duncan Williams, Wian Du Preez, Damien Varley, Peter Borlase, Billy Holland, Ian Nagle, Peter O'Mahony, Niall Ronan, James Coughlan (Capt.) Replacements: Mike Sherry, Stephen Archer, Brian Hayes, Tommy O'Donnell, Conor Murray, Scott Deasy, Barry Murphy.
