Magners Run In

7th March 2011 By Munster Rugby

Magners Run In

Despite assertions in some media quarters that, following their bonus point win on Saturday, Munster are almost guaranteed a home Magners semi final, nothing could be further from the truth.

Yes they do hold a healthy looking nine point lead but of their remaining five games, three are away to Welsh sides and the two remaining home games see them take on Leinster and Connacht.

Of those Welsh sides, two, Ospreys and Cardiff Blues are also bang in contention, with the Blues holding a game in hand.

Of the quartet who lead the table just now, Leinster have the easiest run-in. Besides the game in Thomond Park Stadium on April 2nd, they have to travel to Dragons and Aironi while entertaining Ulster and Glasgow Warriors at the RDS.

The next two outings could define Munster’s Magners season. They haven’t won away to the Blues since November 2005/06 and doubtless, no one needs reminding of their record against Leinster who won in Thomond Park last season for the first time since 1995.

So counting chickens at this stage would be folly. Let's see where things stand after the first weekend in April.

Munster (63) Ospreys (54) Leinster (51) Cardiff  (49)
Blues away Edinburgh away Dragons away Munster home
Leinster home Blues home Munster away Ospreys away
Scarlets away Dragons away Ulster home Connacht away
Ospreys away Munster home Aironi away Treviso home
Connacht home Aironi away Glasgow home

Dragons away

      Scarlets away

Ulster(47): v Dragons (h); Glasgow (a); Scarlets (h); Leinster (a); Connacht (h); Dragons (a).
