2nd April 2011 By Munster Rugby
Munster trailed by eleven points at halftime in Thomond Park but a second half display yielding 15 points to Leinster’s three gave them a one point victory in the Magners League.
Leinster were ahead 20 points to 9 going in at the break after five penalties from Jonathan Sexton and a Shane Horgan try, with O'Gara adding Munster's points.
With the exception of a Warwick penalty, (on as blood replacement for O'Gara), Ronan continued to close the gap in the second half and in a nail biting finish kicked the winning points on the 79th minute to give Munster a 24-23 victory against Leinster tonight in Thomond Park.
From an injury point of view Paul O'Connell was helped off after 46minutes with an ankle injury and went for an xray after the game.
Damien Varley after the win “It was a very tough game and we were determined to come away with a victory tonight. We gave away some silly penalties in the first half and we had to up our physicality for the second half but we did that and it showed in the end.”
Tony McGahan added “It was a highly intense game with two quality sides with everything to play for. We had some great experience coming off the bench and the whole squad had a tremendous belief in themselves. It was vital for us to get that win tonight, we really needed it, for our players, management and supporters. I thought we showed great resilience to come back from 20 points to 9 down at the halfway mark.”
