CIT Showcase Rugby Equipment

Munster players Denis Leamy, Donncha O’Callaghan, Christy Condon, Mick O’Driscoll and James Coughlan paid a visit to the Cork Institute Of Technology yesterday where the annual Cork Mechanical, Manufacturing and Biomedical Engineering Exhibition took place.

The exhibition featured over 190 engineering, innovation and design student projects from the School of Mechanical and Process Engineering in the college.

The Munster forwards were particularly interested in the centrepiece of the exhibition where a number of projects were"" carried out in collaboration with Munster Rugby and CIT Mechanical Engineering Students.

Mentored by Bryce Cavanagh, Munster Rugby Head Of Fitness and Munster Scrum Coach Paul McCarthy, the specific projects included the development of an Advanced Scrum Machine and Scrum Simulator, a Scrum Sled, a Scrum Trainer, a Lineout Training Aid and a Gym Motion Tracking System.

All of the projects received very positive feedback from the Munster players, coaches and the general public. It is envisaged that this will prove to be the start of a very fruitful relationship between Muster Rugby and Mechanical Engineering in CIT.

The exhibition which is Ireland's Largest Educational Engineering and Innovation Event featured 190 Stands proved to be a very popular event. Other exhibits covered a wide range of engineering solutions in the areas of Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical, Building Engineering Systems and Sustainable Engineering. The exhibition is an annual event and open to the public free of charge.
