Hurley Hits A Hundred

Full-back Denis Hurley will become the 25th Munster player to win 100 competitive caps tomorrow in the game against Ulster at Thomond Park Stadium.

28 year old Hurley made his debut against Llanelli Scarlets at Stradey Park in May 2006 in the second last game of that season's League. He added just one more cap to his tally the following season but in 2008/2009 grabbed centre stage when preferred to Shaun Payne at full back, he made his Heineken Cup debut in the quarter final game against Gloucester at Kingsholm.

The Cork born son of Gerry – member of the famous 1978 All Black conquering squad – and Mary Hurley, totally justified the faith shown in him by the then Munster coach Declan Kidney with a sterling performance perhaps highlighted by the threaded thru ball he delivered for Doug Howlett to score the decisive second half try.

He was full back for five of the remaining seven games of that season including the semi final win over Saracens and the final triumph against Toulouse in Cardiff.

Senior and A international caps came in the summer of 2009 and since then Hurley, barring injury, has rarely been out of the match day squad.
