Musgrave Park Development Update

Please find details about the proposed Musgrave Park West Stand development here.

One of the long term strategic objectives for Munster Rugby is to continue playing competitive matches in Cork.

The temporary stand erected in August 2011 was introduced as a short-term measure and planning permission for that stand expires at the end of this season.

A new West Stand has been designed which comprises over 3,000 seats (increasing the overall ground capacity to over 9,000), dressing rooms, a function room, media and medical facilities and public toilets. We have also incorporated covering the existing East Terrace within the project, in order to enhance the spectator experience at the venue.

The project will be funded through existing capital development funds allocated to Musgrave Park, a National Lottery grant already in place, and the sale of a plot of land on the east side of the grounds (playing areas are unaffected). This plot of land has been on the market for the past two months and has generated a significant number of interested parties with whom we are confident we can reach agreement on the sale.

The development will commence in January 2014, subject to the successful sale of land and the granting of planning permission, and it is estimated that the project will take up to 9 months to complete.

For now we hope to extend planning permission on the existing temporary stand until January 2014 in continuing to host competitive games at the venue.
