Constitution To Face Cashel In Charity Cup Final
12th September 2013 By Munster Rugby
Cork Constitution booked their place in the final of the Cork Charity Cup where they will face Cashel after a rather flattering victory over Highfield at Temple Hill.
Cork Constitution 37, Highfield 9.
This score line does not do justice to the effort Highfield put into this game as they trailed by just seven points with ten minutes remaining before three converted tries by the home side made certain of victory.
The game was delicately balanced entering the final quarter with Con’ leading 13-9. Con’s wing forward Graeme Lawlor was already in the sin bin and Bryan Cagney followed when the home side were reduced to thirteen.
From the resulting penalty on Cagney’s dismissal, Highfield laid siege to the Con’ line but the Temple Hill side held firm and eventually worked the ball up field and were awarded a penalty and man of the match Darragh Lyons converted .
Highfield played with the wind in the opening half and raced into an early 3-0 lead with a penalty from Colm Downes.
Con’s first attack on thirteen minutes saw second row Cathal O’Flaherty gather the ball on the half way line and he raced through the Highfield defence to score in the corner and Lyons converted.
Lyons added two penalties to one by Downes to leave the home side leading 13-6 at half time.
Highfield dominated the opening twenty minutes of the second half but their only reward was a third penalty from Downes.
Three converted tries in the final ten minutes from Garret O’Suilleabhain, Alan Ross and Lyons ensured Con’s passage to the final.
