Dolphin Women Compete In Inaugural Fixture
3rd December 2013 By Munster Rugby
History was made on Sunday, 30th November, as the Dolphin ladies side took on Abbeyfeale at Musgrave Park in the club’s first ever women’s competitive fixture.
Despite a 25-6 loss to their more experienced opposition, the club were delighted with the efforts and commitment put in by their side to date and are confident the Dolphin women’s team will continue to grow throughout the season.
Commenting on the match, Feargus O’Donoghue, Dolphin Director of Rugby stated “As half of our team have not played rugby before, to say our club are extremely proud, is a bit of an understatement.”
“I would like to thank the referee on the day Chris Lyons who played his part in making it a very entertaining and competitive game for both sides.”
“Many thanks also to the Munster Women’s committee and all of the respected clubs in our division (development group ‘B’) for being so understanding and supportive of the development of women’s rugby at Dolphin rugby club”.
“A special thanks also to Amanda Greensmith, Munster Women’s Development Officer, for all her assistance in guiding Dolphin to being the latest team to contribute to the cause of women's rugby.”
