Munster Keen To Maintain Momentum At Musgrave

Table-toppers Munster host Scarlets in the RaboDirect PRO12 at Musgrave Park on Saturday looking to extend their seven-game winning streak (ko 7:15pm).

Rob Penney’s side have won all four of their clashes against the Welsh regions so far this year but it is their first time facing Scarlets this season.

Former Irish international Simon Easterby is in his second campaign as Scarlets’ Head Coach and has a 100% record against Munster after leading his side to two wins against the province last year.

They emerged with a 13-6 win at Musgrave Park last November with JJ Hanrahan kicking a late penalty to salvage a losing bonus-point for Munster.

When the sides met again in February, Scarlets earned a thoroughly deserved 18-10 win at Parc y Scarlets with the Welsh side eventually reaching the semi-finals where they were beaten by Ulster at Ravenhill.

Heading into Saturday’s match, the south-west Wales side are on a poor run of form having lost their last three – a Heineken Cup double-header against Clermont Auvergne and a PRO12 clash against Leinster at the RDS.

However, their last win did come on Irish soil in November when they overcame Connacht 24-21 at The Sportsground.

They currently lie sixth in the RaboDirect PRO12, nine points off the top four.

Despite losing George North to Northampton in the summer, the Scarlets side still contains the likes of Rhys Priestland and Scott Williams and had no fewer than seven players selected in the Welsh squad for the recent defeat to Australia.
