In Pics: The Season So Far
5th March 2014 By Munster Rugby
With less than a quarter of the season remaining, Munster lie in second place of the RaboDirect PRO12 and have a Heineken Cup quarter-final against Toulouse coming up at Thomond Park in April.
Check out the best pics from the season so far as Rob Penney’s men have managed to win 18 out of their 22 fixtures.
There have been ups and downs in both the RaboDirect PRO12 and the Heineken Cup. Munster were defeated in just their third PRO12 game of the season in Treviso but bounced back to win eight games in a row including a victory over Leinster at Thomond Park. Defeat last time round at Parc y Scarlets dropped Munster to second in the table after leading the PRO12 for a number of months.
The Heineken Cup campaign began with a disappointing loss to Edinburgh in Murrayfield but Rob Penney’s side recovered brilliantly to win their remaining five pool matches and secure a home quarter-final.
This season has seen Donncha O’Callaghan make a landmark 241st appearance and sign a two-year contract extension that will hopefully see him make many more.
There are a minimum of seven games left this season with only four home fixtures as Munster host Treviso, Glasgow Warriors and Ulster in the PRO12 and Toulouse in the Heineken Cup.
If the province can hold onto their place in the top four of the PRO12, they will reach the play-offs that take place in the middle of May with a position in the top two securing a home play-off. Click here for more details on how to purchase tickets for our final three games in the PRO12.
Heineken Cup quarter-final opponents Toulouse are fifth in the Top 14 table, just five points off table-topping Toulon. A win over Toulouse would set up a Heineken Cup semi-final at the end of April away to either Toulon or Leinster. Coincidentally, the week before the Heineken Cup quarter-final Munster face Leinster in the PRO12 with Toulon facing Toulouse on the same day.
Munster A are in action this Friday against Connacht Eagles in an Interprovincial in Dooradoyle at 3pm and admission is free.
