Weekend Preview And Fixtures

The Munster domestic season concludes this weekend with a second all-Tipperary Munster Junior Cup final as Clanwilliam take on Clonmel at Musgrave Park.

Clonmel are appearing in their first decider and the First Division runners up will start as favourites against the Second Division Tipperary Town side who are seeking their second title as their only triumph was in 1947.

Clonmel are in action against Cobh Pirates in the second semi final of the Munster Junior Clubs’ Challenge Cup at the Paddocks on Thursday evening. The winners are due to meet St Mary’s in the decider, with a date and venue yet to be confirmed. The South Tipperary side recorded a narrow 14-12 victory over the ‘Pirates in the League at the same venue in November.

Tralee and St Mary’s contest the Munster Junior Plate decider at Newcastle West on Thursday evening. The Kerry side will be aiming to become the second club from the Kingdom to have won this trophy as Killarney have won it twice in recent years. Tralee will also be seeking to avenge February’s narrow 21-19 defeat by the Parish side at Grove Island and claim their second provincial title. The Kerry Club’s only previous provincial title came when they won the Munster Junior Cup in 1934.

The Munster Junior 2 League final is down for decision as Gleeson League winners Thomond take on South Munster Junior 2 League champions Bandon at Liam Fitzgerald Park on Saturday.

The Munster Junior team will be aiming to keep their chances of retaining the Interprovincial title intact as they entertain Connacht at Rathuard. A last minute intercept try by Eoin Duffy against Ulster in Youghal, which was converted by Mark Healy with the last kick of the game sealed a 10-9 victory.
