Greencore Munster Academy Meet & Greet
13th May 2014 By Munster Rugby
Following on from January’s launch of the Greencore and Munster Academy partnership, a Meet & Greet was held at Thomond Park Stadium on Saturday for Academy members, staff and parents.
Designed to mark the end of one Academy year and look forward to the next, the event took place ahead of Munster’s final round RaboDirect PRO12 clash against Ulster with academy and sub-academy players together with parents invited to come and see first-hand the programmes put in place to develop the next generation of Munster stars.
Speaking at the event were Peter Malone, Elite Player Development Manager and Patrick Coveney CEO of Greencore. Both men spoke about a number of the initiatives adopted in areas such as nutrition, business mentoring support and work experience for Academy players.
They also spoke about the newly established Patrons Programme, a programme which comprises of Founder Patrons who support two Academy players each, and Academy Patrons who support one player each for the duration of their involvement.
Malone went on to speak about the Academy’s summer plans;
“We run a very heavy programme for our Academy over the summer. They will be in camp for 3 weeks and then training between Limerick and Cork for the rest of the summer. It is our chance to work the players at a very high level, as when they get back to college we have to manage their college load as well."
Later that evening, during the interval of the Munster v Ulster clash, a cheque for €;140,000 was presented to the Greencore Munster Academy from the Munster Rugby Supporters Club.
