Squad Update

We are into week seven of preseason with Munster’s first challenge game of the season against Gloucester taking place at the end of week eight on Saturday August 23rd in Kingsholm at 3pm.

The Munster 7s players were rested yesterday following a demanding schedule over the weekend which saw the squad record 4 out of 6 victories in the inaugural World Club 7s in Thomond Park.

Sevens Head Coach Colm McMahon had to do without a number of his front-line players on the second day with injuries taking their toll, but Munster’s Anthony Foley will not be overly concerned as all should return to action in the next few weeks.

Ronan O’Mahony (hip) was withdrawn from the squad as a precaution and will integrate back into training during the week while Shane Buckley (shoulder) is expected to take part in training at the end of this week.

Luke O’Dea (knee) will be reviewed again later in the week once the swelling reduces and Gerhard van den Heever (knee) who sustained some bruising will continue to be monitored by the medical staff.

The Munster squad gathered in Limerick today for training without the services of 13 Ireland players who are currently involved in Joe Schmidt’s three-day training camp in Carton House.

Good representation for Munster in the national set-up saw 8 forwards and five backs selected for Ireland’s first training camp of the season.

Munster players included are: Robin Copeland, James Cronin, Dave Foley, Dave Kilcoyne, Paul O’Connell, Tommy O’Donnell, Peter O’Mahony, Donnacha Ryan, Keith Earls, Felix Jones, Ian Keatley, Conor Murray and Simon Zebo.

Munster will play their first home game in Waterford on Friday August 29th in the SEAT Challenge when they take on London Irish at 7.30pm. Tickets for this game are available to buy online here.
