Fan Zone Plaza Proves A Hit

Munster fans comprising of families, friends, workmates and clubmates turned out in their droves for the official opening of Thomond Park’s brand new Fan Zone Plaza ahead of last Friday’s Guinness PRO12 encounter with Scarlets.

The new facility provides fans with the ideal pre and post-match meeting point, right on the doorstep of the stadium and with activities and entertainment for fans of all ages.

Cutting the ribbon at the event were Limerick Lord Mayor Michael Sheahan and Councillor Shane Clifford ""while Hermitage Green provided the soundtrack to the evening.

Munster’s Paul O’Connell, Felix Jones and Shane Buckley called in to meet fans and savour the carnival atmosphere, and even pitted their own rugby skills against those of the kids in the Bank Of Ireland Family Fun Zone (see right).

Not many can dwarf the imposing stature of O’Connell, but that’s exactly what happened when stilt walkers arrived and paraded through the plaza, while jugglers, fire eaters and mini bikers amazed young and old alike with some dazzling street entertainment.

The Munster Experience Museum also reopened for business on the night. Relocated to the Fan Zone Plaza, enlarged and updated, fans can now enjoy an enhanced visitor experience and they walk through the history and heritage of Munster Rugby including interactive content for the kids (and the kid in you!).

While just next door, fans socialised in the newly refurbished Guinness Dug Out Bar and a host of artisan food stalls served up a wide variety tasty food options to satisfy all taste buds.

The best part is, the carnival atmosphere of the Fan Zone Plaza is here to stay and set to become a staple part of your matchday experience at Thomond Park.

Check out the Fan Zone Plaza for yourself when Munster play Saracens in Pool 1 of the European Champions Cup on Friday October 24th in Thomond Park. Tickets from €;20 can be purchased online by clicking here.
