Squad Attend IRUPA & Bank Of Ireland Workshops
5th November 2014 By Munster Rugby
Following a 9 week block of consecutive games, and with Munster not scheduled to play again until November 21st, this week sees players following a different training schedule with a focus on strength and conditioning ahead of a down week next week.
The modified schedule yesterday afforded players the opportunity to attend IRUPA and Bank Of Ireland workshops.
In the morning, an IRUPA (Irish Rugby Union Players Association) workshop was presented by newly appointed Player Development Manager Derval O'Rourke.
The former sprint hurdles athlete is one of four player development managers employed on a part-time basis by IRUPA with one in each of the four provinces. O’Rourke’s position in Munster was previously held by former Munster and Ireland player Marcus Horan, who is now pursuing another career.
The role will see O’Rourke work with both senior and Academy players on personal development, career exploration and general wellbeing.
Addressing both ends of the spectrum, O’Rourke will work on the smooth introduction of new players into professional rugby, and the transitioning of those reaching retirement.
While yesterday afternoon, Munster Rugby sponsors Bank Of Ireland conducted a Personal Finance workshop with members of the squad.
The workshop, presented by Bank of Ireland Personal Relations Manager Eimear O'Brien (O'Connell St. branch) and Business Advisor James Murphy (Douglas branch) covered topics such as mortgages, personal banking, business ventures and pensions.
