Munster Return To League Action

Munster Return To League Action

Following the completion of Rounds 3 and 4 of the European Champions Cup, Munster return to Guinness PRO12 action for the coming four weeks, beginning with an away trip to Glasgow Warriors this Saturday – KO 2:40pm.

The subsequent weekends will see Munster play back to back interprovincials – at home to Leinster on St. Stephen’s Day and away to Connacht on New Year’s Day – before travelling to Italy to face Zebre on January 10th.

Little separates Munster and Warriors as the Scotstoun Stadium gets set to host a repeat of last year’s PRO12 semi-final this weekend. After nine rounds of the competition Munster and Warriors lie first and third respectively on the table with just one point separating the teams.

In 2012/13 both sides won their respective home ties, while last season both teams won their respective away fixtures before Warriors went on to shade it in a hard fought 16-15 PRO12 semi-final.

Add to this that Warriors have won their last twelve PRO12 matches at Scotstoun – continuing their club record for home wins since losing there to the Dragons in November 2013 – and Munster face an extremely tough challenge on the road in as many weekends.

Incidentally both sides return to league action on the back of losing bonus point defeats in the Champions Cup, Warriors going down 9-12 at home to Toulouse on Saturday.

Speaking earlier this week, Head Coach Anthony Foley reflected on the happenings of rounds 3 and 4 of the Champions Cup and looked ahead to a return to PRO12 action this weekend.

"The past fortnight things didn't go our way but we didn't tag ourselves as victims, we got on with it.

"We did a lot of good things but at stages during the game we did crucial things that ultimately led to our downfall.

"But these guys need to be exposed to this level of rugby and we go back into the PRO12 where we're top of that table and have to play the teams around us now over Christmas.

"It's a high-end place to be so we have got to make sure our performances are right.

"There are crucial moments in games where we can build pressure on the opposition but also we must adapt to alleviate pressure."

Glasgow Warriors v Munster, Guinness PRO12 Round 10, Saturday December 20th at Scotstoun Stadium – KO 2:40pm.

This game will be televised on Sky Sports 1 with coverage starting at 2:30pm.
