Gearing Up For Warriors

Get the pre-match stats as Munster prepare to face Glasgow Warriors in Round 16 of the Guinness PRO12 this Saturday night in Cork – KO 7:15pm.
One of the weekend’s most anticipated league fixtures, little separates the sides as Irish Independent Park gets set to host a repeat of last year's PRO12 semi-final.
In 2012/13 both sides won their respective home ties, while last season both won their respective away fixtures before Warriors went on to shade it by a single point in the aforementioned semi-final.
7 months later, Round 10 of the current campaign saw another hard fought battle will just a single score separating the sides at the full-time whistle in Scotstoun. Despite Munster leading 9-18 at the break, costly mistakes, coupled with a more cohesive second half performance from the hosts, saw Warriors run in two tries and secure a three point, 21-18 victory – making it three wins on the bounce over Anthony Foley’s men.
This season the sides are evenly met in terms of attack and defence. To date, Warriors have scored 39 league tries as opposed to 38 for Munster, while both match each other defensively, conceding just 18 tries a piece – the best defensive record in the current campaign.
While Munster have lost four games, versus three for the Scotsmen, the average margin of defeat for Axel’s charges is less than that of Glasgow, picking up three of a potential four losing bonus points this season. So far, Warriors have not secured a losing bonus point.
However, with 15 rounds played, it’s the Scottish outfit who top the PRO12 table on 52 points with Munster two places behind on 48 points, and it’s arguably the visitors who will carry the greater momentum into this weekend’s clash in Cork.
Warriors overcame a second half surge from Ospreys to secure a home win and stretch their top of the table advantage out to four points, while Munster left things a little too late away to Scarlets – needing all their knowhow and never-say-die attitude to run in two last minute tries in salvaging the draw.
With both teams firmly focused on securing a play-off position, Saturday night under lights in Irish Independent Park makes for another close-run, hugely competitive and exciting fixture between these two league contenders.
