Ronan Ready For Warriors

Ronan O’Mahony reflects on his recent run of form and looks ahead to this weekend’s PRO12 clash at Irish Independent Park, a venue which has proved a happy hunting ground for the winger in recent seasons.

In 11 appearances – including 9 starts – to date this season, O’Mahony has showcased his attacking potency together with a solid defence and steadfastness under the high ball, earning him his first European start against Sale Sharks in January. However such achievements don’t come easy as the Limerick native explains.

“Training hard, doing a lot of extras, and trying to get consistent performances is key. You want to play for your team mates, your family and your coaches. You want to put your best foot forward every weekend. Lucky enough I’ve gotten the opportunity to wear the jersey a lot this season and I’m very grateful for that. I want to keep pushing forward and keep striding to be better.”

The 25 year old last featured for the province against Cardiff Blues in Round 14 and now sets his sights firmly on table toppers Glasgow Warriors this weekend.

“Glasgow are top of table and the top spot in the league has changed a bit in the last few weeks. Glasgow are in our way now this weekend and we want to put our best foot forward and go out there and put in a good performance and get a win. They are a very good side. We did a lot of review work and they have the ability to attack from anywhere in the park. We have to stay on our toes. They have very good players. Their 9, Matawalu plays on the wing as well and he is a massive threat for them.

“They’ve a great continuity game, they don’t get tied into mini rucks, they’ve a huge amount of lads that can offload on the team, their constantly dangerous with quick taps, and they’ve a lot of variations off line outs and a good set piece. We’ll have to look after that, stay awake in defence, be alive for everything and get a performance at the end of it.

A product of the Greencore Munster Rugby Academy, O'Mahony burst in to the limelight when he scored a hat-trick against London Irish in pre-season action at Irish Independent Park in 2013/14, and since then has gone on to score a number of competitive tries for the province in Cork, the last of which came against Cardiff less than a fortnight ago.

“Irish Independent Park is a happy hunting ground for me. You never plan to score tries, they just come from a good performance so hopefully I can do that this weekend.”
