Earls: Focus Is On Top Four

Back to his lightening best and with a four try return from his last four PRO12 games, Keith Earls is one man not looking beyond the challenge of Benetton Treviso at Irish Independent Park on Saturday – KO 3.05pm.

In reflecting the thoughts of Head Coach Antony Foley earlier this week, the 27 year old discussed the game by game approach and the need to concentrate on securing a top four finish, before attentions turn to a home semi-final.

“It’s going to be tough – it’s going to be a physical encounter. All Italian sides are physical but I think if we look after ourselves and match them on that front, hopefully we will get the result.

“Our main focus at the moment is finishing top four, we leave other results look after themselves, we are just looking at ourselves at the moment. After last year, top four is our focus. We would be confident of going anywhere the way we are playing at the moment. There is a massive competition in the squad. I think that’s why we are playing so well. Fellas are keeping each other on their toes. It’s great for the squad and for everyone around. We keep making each other get better.”

On whether or not no game last weekend affected preparations, Earls said,

“Not really. It gave us some extra time to look at Treviso. This week, we can concentrate on ourselves as well as Treviso. It’s a pity it’s a stop start period. We would have liked to be in the other competition but that’s the way it pans out.”
