Getting To Know Peter McCabe

In his first week of training as a contracted player, get to know Munster prop Peter McCabe who joins the province this season on a one year Development Contract.

A native of Dromtariffe in Co. Cork, while attending Christian Brothers College, Cork, McCabe initially alternated between centre and flanker before making the switch to the front row in his Leaving Cert year.

It was a move that would prove fruitful. A dual-status player in his first year at college, the loosehead lined out in both the colours of Kanturk – alongside his brothers Dan and Luke – and UCC, and following a successful three years with the college-men – in which he also represented Irish Universities – he made the move to Dolphin.

Impressing at club level and for a number of Munster development sides, McCabe made his Munster ‘A’ debut when he started an Interprovincial Series clash against Connacht in Dooradoyle in March of last year and went on to make his first British & Irish Cup appearance in the 2015 quarter-final against Doncaster Knights in January.

Commenting on his first week of pre-season, McCabe said, “It’s a great opportunity and I’m delighted to have it. Week 1 of pre-season has been tough, both mentally and physically, especially the first day, but once you get that over you, you get into the swing of things very fast. I’m sure things will be stepped up again next week and I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
