Squad Update

With a break in Guinness PRO12 action for the next two weekends, the squad are currently on a down week and will resume preparations for Glasgow Warriors in Round 3 next Monday. Meanwhile, a number of rehabbing players will continue with their programmes this week.

Cathal Sheridan has emerged as the only injury concern following yesterday’s 18-20 win over Ospreys at the Liberty Stadium. The scrum-half left the field on 35 minutes with concussion and will be assessed by Munster’s medical staff over the next 48 to 72 hours in determining when he can commence his return to play protocols.

Away from the PRO12, a number of the senior squad lined out for their respective clubs in the opening weekend of the AIL. Shane Buckley scored a try as Garryowen made a winning return to Division 1A with a 14-10 win over Ballynahinch. Elsewhere, in what was a poor weekend for Munster clubs overall, Cian Bohane (Dolphin), Shane Monahan (Shannon) and Kevin O’Byrne (UL Bohs) all featured in their sides’ respective opening round losses.

A number of Greencore Munster Academy players also lined out in club action at the weekend.

  • Cork Constitution: Tomás Quinlan and Ned Hodson
  • Dolphin: John Madigan
  • Garryowen: JP Phelan, Conor Oliver and Steve McMahon
  • Shannon: Niall Horan and Sean McCarthy

There was good news from the Ireland cap regarding Conor Murray. After sustaining concussion in Ireland’s final World Cup warm-up game against England at Twickenham, the Munster scrum-half has completed his return to play protocols and trained fully with Ireland this afternoon.

Ireland will open their 2015 Rugby World Cup campaign against Canada at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday (KO 2.30pm) with Head Coach Joe Schmidt to name his matchday 23 at 2pm on Thursday.

Munster return to action when they welcome reigning champions Glasgow Warriors to Thomond Park for Round 3 of the Guinness PRO12 on Friday October 2nd at 6pm.
