Squad Update

Following a down week, the squad and management this morning resumed preparations for Glasgow Warriors in Round 3 of the Guinness PRO12 on Friday week.

Cork and Limerick based players trained in their respective centres in Cork and Limerick this morning ahead of the first squad session of the week in Cork tomorrow.

It has been confirmed that Clontarf centre Matt D’Arcy has signed a three month short-term contract extension that will see him remain at the province until the end of December.

D’Arcy was on one of six senior squad members to line out in AIL club action at the weekend with Tomás ""O’Leary (pictured right) featuring for Dolphin in their loss to Ballymena at Irish Independent Park. However, the returning scrum-half left the field after sustaining a knock in the opening 40 minutes. O’Leary underwent an MRI on his neck and with everything showing normal he will continue to be assessed by the Munster medical team.

Cian Bohane made his second appearance in as many weeks for Dolphin, while hookers Duncan Casey and Kevin O’Byrne featured for Shannon (losing to Blackrock College) and UL Bohemian respectively – O’Byrne crossing for a try in Boh’s 20-18 win over Belfast Harlequins.

Elsewhere, Darren Sweetnam featured for Cork Constitution in their 22-22 draw at home to Lansdowne in Temple Hill.

On the international front, a total of five Muster players featured in Ireland’s opening round win over Canada in the 2015 Rugby World Cup – Keith Earls, Conor Murray, Peter O’Mahony, Donnacha Ryan and Peter O’Mahony.

With a comprehensive 50-7 win over the Canadians, Ireland now play Romania in their second Pool D game next Sunday at Wembley Stadium – KO 4.45pm. Ireland Head Coach Joe Schmidt will name his side to face Romania at lunchtime on Friday.

Munster return to action when they welcome reigning Guinness PRO12 champions Glasgow Warriors to Thomond Park on Friday October 2nd at 6pm.

Tickets can be purchased online here, from the Munster Rugby Ticket Offices at Irish Independent Park and Thomond Park, or by calling 0818 719 300.
