Head Coach Anthony Foley met with media following yesterday’s training session in UL and looked ahead to Friday’s encounter.

“It’s not lost on us that a couple of months ago they beat us in the Final. It’s our first time meeting Glasgow since and this will be another big clash so it’s important that we go and represent ourselves in the right manner on Friday night. We head into this weekend in good shape and with some selection headaches which is a good complaint to have. Now it’s about making the right selection call for the game.

“We’ve had the last two weekends off but I’d hope we haven’t lost a whole lot in that time. Training has been intense and we put a number of lads back into the AIL to get some game time and that gives us some good options both this weekend and heading into the 16 week run of games.”

Foley also believes that early season wins will stand his men in good stead once the business end of the season comes around.

“We said it last year when we were going through a rough patch – it’s important to accumulate points early in the season. Towards the end of the season you appreciate every single point that you have so it’s important that we don’t let the stop-start nature of the beginning of this season disrupt us.

“All sides have had a clear focus during recent weeks. I know Glasgow played the Army last weekend and got a result there, whereas we gave guys a week off the first week and trained hard in the second, and now the lads are sharp and fresh so hopefully we can take that into this weekend’s game.

“Warriors have had a personnel shift from the last time we played them because of the World Cup and some players moving on. That said, they still play a very fluid and open game so it’s important for us to control that while also controlling our own performance, and if we do give them possession that we give them possession with pressure.

“One thing we did at the start of this season was review the final and we understand the mistakes we made so it’s important we don’t have a repeat of that.”
