Chisholm: ‘Love The Style Of Rugby’

Munster second row Mark Chisholm on adapting to life both on and off the field since his arrival in the province at the start of September.

To date, the former Bayonne captain has made two competitive starts for the men in red and is becoming well versed in both Irish culture and a different brand of rugby.

“I’m loving my time in Munster, it’s a big change from down in the south west of France but I love the blokes I’m playing with and love the style of rugby. It’s a great environment and a lot of the boys have great craic – you can see I’m learning the lingo.

“Each position on the team is very competitive at the moment. Each week it comes down to training and how much effort you put in, especially for me, only being in the team environment in the past 5 to 6 weeks. For me it’s a massive learning curve, learning the plays and calls. I started from zero but I’m happy with the level of advancement I’m making but I’ve certainly got a long way to go to implement the style of game that I’m happy with for the team.

“The PRO12 has definitely been a step up with regards to the breakdown technique and a lot of the players are searching for open spaces rather than searching for collisions.”

Still unbeaten in the famous red jersey, the former Australian international will look to make it three wins from three starts on his first visit to Irish Independent Park, but in doing so recognises the physical attributes and discipline that the Blues possess.

“Watching and reviewing Cardiff this week and strategising for the game on Saturday you quickly see how well drilled and disciplined they are. They also have some very big ball carriers and it will be just as tough a challenge as the previous rounds, if not tougher.”
