In Pics: Interprovincial Preparations

Take a look at our training shots from UL yesterday and get the pre-match thoughts of Head Coach Anthony Foley ahead of this Saturday’s table-topping interprovincial clash against Connacht at Thomond Park – KO 5.15pm.

Munster have enjoyed a good home record in the PRO12 of late, but the strongest of starts to the season for Connacht has Anthony Foley understandably wary heading into this weekend’s challenge.

“Playing the table-toppers this weekend will be a tough challenge for us. They have gone very well in both competitions – European and Domestic – and are building nicely on what they did last season. We need to pull out a big performance and show Connacht what we’re made of.

“Pam Lam and company in Connacht have recruited well and brought through some quality talent from their academy system and now have, not just a strong 15, but a strong squad. They showed up well in Thomond Park in pre-season and we haven’t forgotten that.”

As was evidenced by Munster’s opening Champions Cup win over Treviso almost a fortnight ago, winter has well and truly arrived with Foley’s men preparing according for less favourable playing conditions.

“We understand these conditions but still it’s about maintaining possession and making sure that we use it wisely. The quality of ball is what you can play off. Our scrum was getting a good workout on the training pitch today and obviously we spent a lot of time working on our line-out too.”

With kick-off set for 5.15pm on Saturday, the Head Coach is hoping for a strong show of support at Thomond Park for this highly anticipated interprovincial fixture. (Click here for a full preview).

“The crowds are growing and gaining momentum. People are recognising this newer generation of players and what they’re giving. We have a lot of quality in the side and these players have massive pride in the Munster jersey and they want to show fans in Thomond Park what it means to them to wear the jersey.”
