In a man of the match performance Ian Keatley kicked all of Munster’s points through two penalties and one drop-goal, and following the completion of Round 11 the men in red have climbed to 5th on the PRO12 table, one place ahead of Ulster 32 points.

The game also saw Duncan Williams became the ninth player in the current squad to reach the 100 cap milestone for Munster when he appeared from the bench in the second half.

Speaking after his side’s first win in six games, Head Coach Anthony Foley said, “We were desperate to get a result and put a full stop behind the losing streak that we had been on.

“Ian Keatley went through a tough time in the back-to-back Leicester games and talking to him before the Leinster game we thought a weekend off would be the best thing to let him refocus and recharge and we saw the benefits of that here in Belfast.

“He controlled the game very well, particularly in the second half, as well as kicking the drop-goal and taking his penalty opportunities.  He was well able to find the corners and with his touch finders from penalties he was getting the extra few yards, putting us in great positions for a lot of the game.

“Walking around the dressing room at half time (Munster trailing by 4 points) there was a lot of energy and purpose there.  In the first half we had good possession but often got turned over after getting into the Ulster half.  In the second half we managed possession a whole lot better.

“In most of the games we’ve played in the past five weeks there was one or two moments that didn’t go our way and if they had it’s possible to think that the result might have been different.  We looked at what we were doing and how we were doing it and not much has changed and we ground out a win that keeps our season alive in many respects.”
