Video: Catching Up With Peter McCabe
15th January 2016 By Munster Rugby
Back to full fitness and raring to go, we catch up with Development prop Peter McCabe. After his successful rehabilitation of a pectoral tear – sustained in pre-season – the 23 year old will make a return to provincial action when he lines out for Munster A against Yorkshire Carnegie on Sunday.
A native of Dromtariffe in Co. Cork, while attending Christian Brothers College, Cork, McCabe initially alternated between centre and flanker before making the switch to the front row in his Leaving Cert year.
It was a move that would prove fruitful. A dual-status player in his first year at college, the loosehead lined out in both the colours of Kanturk – alongside his brothers Dan and Luke – and UCC, and following a successful three years with the college-men – in which he also represented Irish Universities – he made the move to Dolphin RFC.
Impressing at club level and for a number of Munster development sides, McCabe made his Munster 'A' debut when he started an Interprovincial Series clash against Connacht in Dooradoyle in March 2014 and went on to make his first B&I Cup appearance in the 2015 quarter-final against Doncaster Knights last January.
McCabe began a one-year Development contract at the beginning of this season and will start at tighthead for Munster A away to Yorkshire Carnegie in Sunday’s B&I Cup Round 5 encounter at Lockwood Park – KO 3pm.
