Venue Change For Munster A
20th January 2016 By Munster Rugby
Munster Rugby can confirm that Saturday’s round 6 British and Irish Cup game has been moved from Midleton RFC, with the alternate venue in Cork yet to be confirmed.
The recent adverse weather conditions have had a negative effect on pitch surfaces all over the province, and with further rain expected leading into match day the decision has been made to source an alternate venue in Cork.
Munster Rugby wish to thank Midleton RFC for all of their help, time and effort in looking to faciliate the original fixture.
This Saturday’s pool 3 game is a must-win encounter with Munster A and London Scottish vying for a quarter-final spot as one of three best placed runners-up.
In previewing the final round we spoke to Munster A Head Coach Mick O’Driscoll who discussed last weekend’s round 5 defeat and the challenge that lies ahead this Saturday.
“Last weekend against Yorkshire Carnegie we had a poor first half and overall in the game we gave away too many penalties, and too many at scrum time.
“We didn’t want to play a set-piece game against them and unfortunately that’s what we did in the first half. They had a very experienced front five and that was the difference.
“However, things changed big time in the second half so we luckily got away from that and we came back to nine points between the two teams. Unfortunately we then conceded another silly penalty on our own line and they ended up clearing their line, going down the pitch, and scoring another try.
“We should have probably come away with two bonus points but only came away with one.
“It was a good positive second half after a difficult first half where we couldn’t get our hands on the ball and then when we did have it we gave it back to them very cheaply so hopefully looking at this weekend we can turn that around and hold on to possession when we get it.
“The lads scored some really good tries just from pure hard work, holding on to the ball in the right areas of the pitch and making the right decisions. Hopefully that can all stand to us going in to this Saturday.
“This weekend is a must-win game for us up against a London Scottish side that are also looking for a quarter-final spot and it will be two sides going at it fairly hard.
“They are a very good side and another big English Championship side so a key thing for us will be to hold on to the ball and play some open rugby.
“It’s going to be a tough game with it all to play for.”
