Result: Ardscoil Rís 18, St. Munchin’s College 15

This game got off to a flying start. Munchins put Ardscoil under pressure immediately in their twenty-two. However, nothing came of it as the ball was turned over. A few minutes later, Ardscoil were penalised for collapsing the maul. Outhalf Jason Kiely took full advantage and slotted it over the posts. Munchin’s player Marcus Browne had to leave the field due to a serious shoulder injury.

Ardscoil responded with a penalty of their own before a mismatch on the left hand side lead to an Evan Cusack try. Things got a little heated after some nice play from Munchins. This saw Adam Moloney and Ard Scoil’s Darragh O’Grady sent to the sin bin. Kiely added another two penalties not too long after. Munchins were penalised for being off their feet in the ruck. Conor Fitzgerald scored the penalty. Jason Kiely then made it 11-12 going into the break.

The second half saw both cancel each other out. Big hits were being made. Ard Scoil hooker Colin Slater was shown a yellow card for a late tackle. Munchins took an 11-15 lead after another penalty was given away by Ard Scoil. Scrum-half Aaron Rice was the next one sent to the sin-bin, as the referee felt he deliberately failed to roll away from the ruck. It looked as though Ardscoil were going to pinch the victory after putting Munchins under ferocious pressure in their twenty-two. After missing a guilt-edged opportunity, Ardscoil redeemed themselves when Pa Ryan dived over the line which gave Ard Scoil a narrow victory.
