Despite the hard fought nature of his side’s win, Head Coach Anthony Foley was glad to be leaving Parma with four league points.

“We had a good start to the game but then we lost control of the ball and the air, and they got good momentum heading into the second quarter – we struggled to head for the interval with the lead.

“From a position where we thought we could kick-on for the rest of the game, we ended up struggling for large periods of it.”

“Every time in Italy, whether it’s Treviso or Zebre, especially when you come to their patch, you will be tested physically.  A lot of teams have come over here and been turned over and we’re glad to be leaving with 4 points – plenty teams have left with less than that.

“It’s important that we understand they are a much better side than their history might show.”

The game also saw academy graduate Darren Sweetnam make his first Guinness PRO12 start.

“Darren had a good and solid game and showed his prowess in the air.  He didn’t get many chances to show off his speed and agility but there will be other days for Sweets.  He tackled and contested well.”

Despite claiming victory, Munster slipped from 5th to 6th on the league table as Ulster bagged a bonus point in their victory over Treviso, moving the northerners one league point ahead of the men in red.

With no game this coming weekend, the Munster squad will enjoy some down time this week and will return to action against Ospreys in Irish Independent Park on Valentine’s Day.
