CBC narrowly beat Crescent College to the 107th senior cup title. Both teams put up a good defence, with Christians defence being particularly strong in the last 10 minutes.
Christians started the match well with an early bit of possession in Crescent's 22 from which they earned a penalty under the posts which James Taylor missed.
Shortly after, Crescent's Daniel Hurley converted a penalty to get the first score of the match. Christians responded well scoring a penalty of their own to make the score 3-3. Crescent missed a chance to gain the lead with a penalty that went wide for Hurley from 30 meters out.
Daniel Hurley, Calvin Nash and Billy O’Hora proved to be a threat putting Christians defence under pressure.
The only try of the game came just before half time with Hurley getting over the line after good forward play.
Hurley was very unlucky when taking the conversion as the ball fell off the tee during his run up leaving him to drop kick it.
Crescent continued the pressure up to half time but missed another opportunity by not taking a kickable penalty.
Half time 8-3
Christians had a strong start to the second half with a good spell of possession but couldn’t find any holes in the Crescent defence.
Billy O’Hora managed to relieve some of the pressure on Crescent by making a great break, but unfortunately lost the ball just outside Christians 22. From the resulting scrum Christians attacked down the blind side with Barry Galvin sprinting down the line to touch it down under the posts but play was called back because he put a foot in touch.
Soon after O’Hora was yellow carded for a deliberate knock on and from the resulting penalty Christians reduce the deficit to 2 points. Christians again got close to Crescent's line with a line out. They drove over the line with a maul but once again play was brought back for an infringement and Crescent yet again had a lucky escape clearing there lines.
The match winning score came from a James Taylor penalty with 15 minutes to go. Crescent pushed hard in the final minutes getting close to scoring but just couldn’t break through the Christians defence. Both teams gave it their all and it was a close match but in the end it fell Christian’s way.
