Vacancy: IRFU National Team Doctor / Sports & Exercise Medicine Physician

The IRFU, in partnership with the Sports Surgery Clinic Santry, would like to invite applications for the position of National Team Doctor.

The Role:
The IRFU and the Sports Surgery Clinic have partnered to create a unique opportunity for the successful candidate to work as Irish National Senior Team Doctor and as a Sports & Exercise Medicine Physician in The Sports Surgery Clinic.
 
In the role as National Team Doctor, the successful candidate will develop and deliver world leading medical support to the Player Performance Management Group. They will work closely with all the high performance medical and science departments of the provincial teams to develop and deliver world leading player injury and illness prevention practices. The role will also encompass monitoring of practice implementation and oversight of related research in the area of high performance player injury and illness prevention and management.
 
In the role as Sports & Exercise Medicine Physician, the successful candidate will provide full-time sport and exercise medicine consultancy services within The Sports Surgery Clinic. This is a progressive private sports medicine facility with more than 40 consultants including 6 consultant sports and exercise medicine physicians. Allied to a busy clinical service is a strong research programme in biomechanics, groin pain, concussion and ACL injury. Applications would be invited to engage in this programme along with a truly multidisciplinary department.
 
The Position:
This position is being offered on a fixed-term contract basis and is based in Dublin. The contract term is 3 years and 6 months with a start date of no later than Monday, 23rd May 2016.
 
The applicant:
The successful candidate would divide their time between the Sports Surgery Clinic and their commitment to the IRFU as National Team Doctor. The successful candidate will be on the Specialist Register in the Division of Sports & Exercise Medicine (or equivalent), and have over 5 years’ experience working in high performance sport (ideally rugby experience).
