The IRFU would like to invite applications for the position of Lead Physiotherapist, Munster. The Lead Physiotherapist will deliver best practice sports physiotherapy services to the Munster Squad based, in Limerick, in partnership with the Munster Medicine and Science Service team.

This position is being offered on a full-time, 2 year fixed-term contract basis and is based in Munster Rugby, Co. Limerick.

LEAD PHYSIOTHERAPIST, MUNSTER – JOB DESCRIPTION
 
The Lead Physiotherapist will deliver best practice sports physiotherapy services to the Munster Squad based, in Limerick, in partnership with the Munster Medicine and Science Service team.
 
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
 
Operational:      Director of Rugby, Munster
                        Lead Doctor, Munster
                                               
Functional:        Medical Director, IRFU
 
 
MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
 
      Lead academy physiotherapist.
      Munster senior squad physiotherapists.
                       

KEY QUALITIES 
Essential: 

  • BSc in physiotherapist or equivalent;
  • A post-graduate qualification in sports physiotherapy or musculoskeletal     physiotherapy or sports science;
  • A minimum of three years post graduate experience with elite sports people.
  • Sports specific emergency pitch-side training.
  • Proven management experience of staff and programmes
  • Good organisational skills including record keeping.
  • On-going maintenance of CPD as outlined by your regulatory body.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • The ability to work well within a multidisciplinary high performance team   

                  environment.
 
    Desirable:

  • Physiotherapy experience in a professional rugby team environment.
  • Full clean drivers licence.
  • Excellent IT and organisational skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES  

Service Delivery

  • To provide all aspects of physiotherapy care both proactive and reactive

                  to Munster Squad.

  • To work with the Munster Medicine & Science team (doctors, physiotherapists,       S&C, Nutrition and other service providers) in the treatment and monitoring of        Munster Squad injuries.
  • Co-ordinate planning and delivery of injury pre-habilitation and rehabilitation          programmes of The Munster Squad.
  • Work closely with other specialists and the IRFU physiotherapy and fitness             advisors especially in the pre-habilitation and injury rehabilitation of players.
  • Complete musculo-skeletal screening for all contracted players at the start of the    season and implement individual pre-habilitation programmes as required. 
  • Complete end of season screening where necessary.
  • Conduct and complete pre-signing and exit medicals as required.
  • Attend Munster squad training and be available to give treatment at times suitable to you and the player. Ensure that there is a cross-cover arrangement in           place for all absences, utilising the existing Munster/IRFU physiotherapy   personnel;
  • Provide physiotherapy cover for Munster Senior games, at both home and away
          fixtures
  • Accompany Munster contracted players, where possible, on visits to consultants.

 
Reporting / Documentation

  • Maintain up to date notes on the online player medical management system           (Kitman at         present).
  • Report to the relevant Munster team doctors on all matters relating to players’        injuries and progress.
  • Complete a post match injury report, in conjunction with the Provincial Team          Doctor, and communicate this to the national team physiotherapist, national       team doctor and IRFU Medical Director where relevant.
  • Complete written reports for coaching staff in preparation for squad training           days.

 
Communication

  • Communicate regularly with the Munster Medicine & Science team regarding any    physiotherapy issues related to player welfare or performance.
  • Communicate with coaches regarding progress of injured players on a       regular basis.
  • Liaise with National Team physiotherapist and National Team doctor regarding       the progress and ongoing treatment of National Squad players.

 
Stock and budgeting

  • Order medical supplies and equipment as appropriate. 
  • Work within a budget and keep accurate information on associated costs and
          forward details of costs on a regular basis to the Financial Controller of the
          Munster Branch;

 
Leadership / Management

  • Provide appropriate leadership to all members of the Munster Physiotherapy           team.
  • Manage the physiotherapy service delivery of the Munster Physiotherapy Team.
  • Hold regular staff meetings and manage all relationships necessary to ensure all  
          responsibilities are delivered.
  • Complete half yearly performance reviews with your staff and ensure continuous  
          professional development of all Munster Physiotherapy staff.

 
Working Relationships

  •       Build and maintain relations with Munster Rugby staff (particularly those in the    

Physiotherapy, Medical areas and Finance) to ensure relationships of trust, respect, support and continuous and open communication exist.

  •       Build and maintain a relationship of trust and respect with The National team   

                  medical staff and IRFU Medical Department ensuring continuous and open       
                  communication.
 
Education / CPD

  • Take part in player education in consultation with relevant team Doctor and            Fitness Staff on injury prevention, treatment and management;
  • Be trained and updated in acute pitch side care, including spinal injury and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, in your capacity as a Physiotherapist;
  • Keep up to date on recent research in sports physiotherapy and rugby related        physiotherapy issues;
  • Maintain and update your knowledge and practice of sports physiotherapy, to         include participation in IRFU physiotherapy in-service meetings.

PERFORMANCE MEASURES
 
Service Delivery

  • Provision of fully documented proactive and reactive physiotherapy care to
          players.
  • Fully documented development and implementation of injury prevention
          protocols.

 
Communication/ Reporting / Documentation

  •       Provision of accurate documentation on injuries and Rehabilitation Programme        

                  and ensuring all medical records are kept up to date (i.e. updated within 24                        hours of injury/treatment) on the Player Medical Management System (Kitman at           present).

  • Ensure effective communication to the IRFU Medical Director, the provincial  

                  medical, management and performance groups;

  • Provide end of season report to the IRFU Medical director;

 
Stock and budgeting

  •      Track and report the costs of supplies for the Munster Squad and Academy

                 players;
 
Leadership / Management

  • Delivery of effective leadership to all members of the Munster Physiotherapy          team.
  • Provide effective and efficient management of the Munster Physiotherapy service.

 
Working Relationships

  • Establish and maintain appropriate effective working relationships.

 
Education / CPD

  •      Delivery of player education sessions;
  •      Maintenance of satisfactory on-going continued professional development    

                 education in the practise of sports physiotherapy, concussion and anti-doping;      

  •      Attendance and presentation at  IRFU Medical and Physiotherapy meetings.

 
KPIs

  •      Successful completion of agreed KPIs.
