Video: Scannell’s Pathway From Academy To Pro
8th July 2016 By Munster Rugby
New senior recruit and last season’s Young and Academy Player of the Year, Rory Scannell, reflects on his three seasons in the Greencore Munster Rugby Academy and how it prepared him for life as a professional player both on and off the field.
Following a hugely impressive 2015/16 where he played 26 of 28 competitive fixtures, primarily at inside centre, the 22-year-old officially joined the senior ranks this summer on a development contract for the 2016/17 season, advancing to a full contract in 2017/18.
These weeks serve somewhat as a trip down memory lane for Rory as, with the internationals yet to return, a number of academy/club representatives are currently training with the senior squad.
The academy’s Brian Scott, Rory Burke, Ben Kilkenny, Conor Oliver, Stephen Fitzgerald, Steven McMahon, Ned Hodson, Conor Fitzgerald (sub academy and younger brother of Stephen) and Cork Constitution’s John Poland are currently taking part in senior preseason, while new academy recruit Calvin Nash and sub academy players Dan Hurley and Jack Lyons will also link up with the squad next week.
