Video & Pics: Opening Round Win In Wales

In the words of Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus, we look back at a performance filled with ‘commitment and guts’ as Munster recorded an opening round win away to Scarlets in the Guinness PRO12.

A hugely impressive defence kept the ever threatening Scarlets at bay, save for an opportunistic Gareth Williams tap and go that netted the hosts their only try of the game.  However Munster’s attacking skillset also looked sharp, neat interplay from the forwards seeing James Cronin crash over on 18 minutes before Ronan O’Mahony sniped from well outside the Scarlets 22 for a wonderful opportunistic try before half time.  Add to this two conversions and two penalties from Tyler Bleyendaal, plus a long range Ian Keatley penalty, and Munster were deserved 13-23 winners.

Commenting on the win, Erasmus said, “If you can take something out of it it’s probably commitment and guts, which is sometimes something you can’t coach.

“I think the guys today were solid. It was nice, but nobody thinks it was a perfect game.  If you can show your aggression within the system that’s the golden way.

“Tonight there was some times when we didn’t and most of the time we did so hopefully that’s the standard for the season. The guys stood tall.”
