Keatley Surpasses 1,000 Points In Red
3rd October 2016 By Munster Rugby
In kicking all three second half conversions for Munster in Saturday’s win over Zebre, Ian Keatley has now scored over 1,000 points for Munster, becoming just the second player ever to do so after Ronan O’Gara.
Joining Munster in 2011 having previously represented Connacht on 57 occasions, Keatley kicked his first points in red against Newport Gwent Dragons at Musgrave Park – now Irish Independent Park – in September of that year, landing two penalties and two conversions on the night.
Those points started his pathway to becoming Munster's top points scorer for the past five seasons and Munster's second leading points scorer of all time after O'Gara. Also, the Dublin native is one of just three players to score over 1000 points in the Guinness PRO12, achieving the landmark in November 2014 against Ulster at Thomond Park.
And it’s not just off the kicking tee that Keatley has notched up so many points for the men in red. Timely drop goals have also seen the playmaker guide Munster to a number of crucial victories including Munster’s 7-9 away win at Ulster last January and, perhaps most famously, his sensational injury time effort against Sale Sharks to snatch victory for Munster in the opening round of the 2014/15 Champions Cup.
