Video: Getting To Know Alex Wootton

In his first season with the senior squad, get to know academy graduate Alex Wootton. Originally hailing from Stockport, the winger discusses the move to Munster and his pathway to the senior squad, one that has seen him play for Ireland U20s and Ireland Men’s 7s.

Learning much of his trade in the club game, Wootton was named Garryowen's Senior Player of the Year in 2015 and later that year captained Munster in the Limerick World Club 7s at Thomond Park.
 
Also impressing for Ireland 7s in their bid for 2016 Olympic qualification, the speedster graduated to the senior squad on a one-year development contract at the start of 2016/17, making his PRO12 debut against Edinburgh in Thomond Park in September.  He has made a further two appearances since then, most recently featuring in the province’s win over Ulster last Friday.

Where and when did you first play rugby: My local club Macclesfield at the age of 8
 
Biggest influence on career: My mother, father and my two brothers 
 
Best career advice you were given: Never be complacent. Someone somewhere is working to be better than you.
 
What you like most/least about being a rugby player: Most, the lifestyle and friends. Least, the injuries.
 
Other sports that you played: Soccer, athletics and swimming.
 
Best rugby memory: Getting my first senior Irish rugby cap for the 7s team.
 
Rugby player you admire most: Joe Rokocoko.
 
Rugby team you admire most: Ireland.
 
Sporting event you would most like to attend: 100m final when Usain Bolt broke the world record.
 
Three people you would invite to dinner: Anthony Joshua, Jennifer Lawrence and Usain Bolt.
 
If you weren’t a rugby player what would you be: I would like to say either a football player or competing in athletics. If not then a property developer.
 
Place in the province you most like be / chill out: Killaloe on a hot day.
 
Fav song or band you like to train to or listen to before a game: Bee Gees and then some Drake, Eminem and 50 Cent.
 
Who would you least like to room with and why: Jack O'Donoghue because he is a real wind up merchant.
