Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Cup
Newcastle West – 27 Clonakilty – 10 
A very good cup win on Sunday last when Clonakilty came to Cullinagh. Leading 17-5 at half time through 2 tries from Sean Herlihy and Sean Murphy with the former adding 2 conversions and a penalty we pushed on in the second half and added another try from Sean Neville with Sean Herlihy kicking another conversion and a penalty.
We play Bandon away in the semi-final.

The Junior team returns to league action on Sunday when we travel to Shannon town to take on St Senans @ 2.30pm

U16s
Newcastle West/Estuary 3 Garryowen 10
This was a middle of table clash our boys were hoping to bounce back from a defeat last week. We started well and kept Garryowen pinned in their own half for a long period of first half. With good work from our pack carries by Bartek Krysiak and David Massey and Kevin Sheahan were making progress. But unforced errors in Garryowen’s 22 cost us. Christopher Walsh and Jack Corkery both working hard making good tackles. Our backs led by Kieran Carmody were getting ball but was not as much as they liked but did some positive work with the ball. Both centres Oliver Lynch and Lucas Costelloe working well of out half Jack Grimes. With 1 minute left in first half Garryowen hit us for a break away try good tackle from Daniel Normoyle was not enough to stop Garryowen off loading and scoring. The second half started well with both wingers John O Connor and Killian Collins gaining ground. We got into Garryowen’s 22 with a good kick ahead by our lock Daniel Collins we stayed in their half and 22 for long period of second half. We got a penalty which was converted by Jack Grimes. A good kick ahead by Diarmuid O Flynn who chased and got the ball back on our side but an unforced error turned it over again. Turlough O Connor who came on at half time was carrying well at out half. we introduced Liam Callanan for John O’Connor and a welcome back from injury Alan McGrath who came in for Kieran Carmody which a few players switching we controlled the ball well. But a knock on and a penalty we were back in our 22 where Garryowen scored another try to take it to 10 to 3. We introduced our last subs Keith Begley for Christopher Walsh. Keith played well and held his own in the scrum. Cian Doody was introduced late on and had only time to take part in a scrum. He replaced Sean Burke who started only his second Game this year at flanker and what a game he had. Tackling and carrying ball on many occasions also sealing on rucks was fantastic. He was a positive light in a loss and if there was a Man of the match award Sean would have won it for us.

Thurles
Thurles Womens RFC v UL Bohemians
 
Thurles Womens RFC had an emphatic 38-12 win over a much improved UL Bohemianss side on Sunday. Bohs were on the attack early in the game and their speed and skill looked threatening but Thurles were very strong in defence and the home side failed to make any real ground.  The first attack from Thurles was an impressive one and involved the whole team, fast hands and a superb run from Flying Full Back, Aisling O Hagan  released Aisling Byrne to barrel over the line with a fantastic try. The conversion attempt from  a very tight angle was narrowly missed. Thurles were ahead 5-0.
Thurles were the better side in the ensuing minutes of the game with both the forwards and the backs impressive. Aisling O’Hagan who had an outstanding game was to score the second try with the help and support of the powerful Niamh Coman. Megan Callanan easily slotted over the conversion. Thurles were ahead 12-0.
Bohs reacted very well to the dominance of the visitors, their line speed and accuracy carrying them over the line for their first try of the game. The angle for the conversion was tight and narrowly missed. The score now stood at 12-5
Thurles dug deep and players such as jean Ryan, Linda Ryan and Karen Cuddy all put in some fantastic tackles. The forwards worked hard to secure and maintain possession. Thurles forward, Laura Carroll was the next player to find the try line as she spotted a gap in the Bohs defence and went over the line for a fine individual score. Sharpshooter, Megan Callanan again slotted over the conversion Half Time 5 – 19.
Thurles started the second half very well. Stephanie Moore made a fantastic tackle on her opposite winger turning over the ball to give Thurles valuable possession.  Ciara O Dwyer and Lesley O Sullivan made huge carries for the Thurles Women. In a Man of the Match performance, Full Back Aisling O Hagan once again broke the Boh’s line and made a fantastic run from inside her own half, crossing the the halfway line to score for Thurles. Megan Callanan once again expertly converted it. 26-5.
Bohs were unlucky not to get two more tries, one being expertly held up by Aisling O'Hagan  and Ciara O'Dwyer and the other was an unfortunate knock on. Thurles player Joanne Harrison won an ensuing line out and a maul from Thurles allowed the Premier Women gain valuable ground. Maria Whelan peeled off the back of the maul and with a lovely pass to outhalf Miriam Harrison who had a great game, once again released the unstoppable O Hagan over the try line for Thurles. Megan Callanan duly slotted it over the bar. 5-33.
The remainder of the match was a battle between the two sides in deteriorating weather conditions. Bohs scored an excellent try in the dying minutes of the game which was nicely converted bringing the final score to 12-38, an excellent, well engineered, bonus point victory for Thurles.
The Thurles Women are on the road again away to Shannon Ladies RFC next Sunday and the U15 & U18 Girls are away to Mallow. Any travelling support would be appreciated.
