Munster are on a run of five straight victories, and while a 7-try rout of Treviso will send them to Glasgow with a certain confidence, Erasmus and his charges are fully aware that Saturday’s win came against a depleted Treviso outfit with a far stiffer challenge lying in store this weekend.
“The Treviso win was nice and a solid performance from us. But one also shouldn’t forget that Italy were playing an international match and Treviso were without a lot of their frontline players. The biggest thing that we are saying to one another is, always be realistic about what you’ve achieved. If it’s something good enjoy it for a while but then move on to the new challenge.”
That challenge comes in the form of Warriors – a side laden with Scottish internationals – on a new 4G pitch at Scotstoun. Munster will prepare accordingly, moving elements of training to the 4G facilities at UL this week.
“We will have a session there. It always helps to familiarise yourself with the conditions. However most of the guys have played in Scotstoun before and the pitch shouldn’t have a massive impact. Obviously the game will be a bit faster and scrummaging will be a bit different.
“Personally I haven’t had a lot of experience with that type of surface, but speaking to our coaches here, they feel we need a session or two on the 4G so we’ll be sure to do that.”
Munster face Warriors for the first time since an emotionally charged performance in the wake of Anthony Foley’s sudden passing saw them comprehensively defeat the Scotsmen 38-17 in the Champions Cup.
“The circumstances this week are totally different. It’s five weeks on, a lot of Glasgow’s players are coming back after excellent Test experience and we have to travel away to face them on their turf. It’s not possible to compare this game with the last time we faced them and this Friday will be a massive challenge for us.”
