Europe Almost Here | Secure Your Tickets
2nd October 2017 By The Editor
With an optimal Saturday evening kick-off time of 5.30pm, don’t miss your chance to experience the unrivalled atmosphere of European match night at Thomond Park as two of the province’s most beloved sons, Ronan O’Gara and Donnacha Ryan, return with Racing 92 to do battle in round 2 of the Champions Cup.
The fiercest of rivalries comes to a head this weekend as Munster face Leinster at the Aviva Stadium and the Guinness PRO14 interprovincial will serve as the ideal preparation for a return to European action a week later.
Rassie Erasmus’ men open their Champions Cup campaign away to Castres who, despite winning just two from six in the Top 14 to date, showed their muscle with a six-point win over the always-fancied Clermont just yesterday. Munster and Castres draw swords at the Stade Peirre Antoine on Sunday October 15th at 1pm (Irish).
The following weekend, on Saturday October 21st, Thomond Park is set to come alive for its biggest night of the season thus far. A carnival atmosphere is guaranteed in and around the ground and a 5.30pm kick-off is ideal for those travelling to and from, or for those who wish to continue the occasion well into the night in Limerick city.
On the field, Racing are chasing their first away pool win in the competition in almost two years. However the 2016 French champions will be all the wiser for their experience of Thomond Park last season and this coupled with the nous and knowhow of O’Gara and Ryan will make them a tricky prospect. Munster also have the inside track on their opposition also with new additions James Hart and Gerbrandt Grobler signing from the Parisian outfit this summer.
On the domestic front, Racing have blown both hot and cold to date, winning three and losing three and will be gunning after Lyon handed them their first home defeat of the season at the weekend.
With just under three weeks to go, make sure you are there to add your voice to the Munster roar and enjoy a night of top-flight European action in Thomond Park.
