6 Nations rugby will be played in Cork for the first time as the Ireland U20s’ two 2019 6 Nations home fixtures have been confirmed to take place at Irish Independent Park.
Noel McNamara’s side will host England in Cork on the opening weekend of the U20 6 Nations Championship before welcoming France to Irish Independent Park in Round 4 of the competition.
This will be the first time the province hosts a 6 Nations tournament at any level with the recent pitch installation at Irish Independent Park being a significant factor in securing the fixtures.
Commenting on the announcement, Head of Finance and Operations Philip Quinn said: “We are delighted to welcome the Ireland U20s home games to Irish Independent Park. This is part of an overall plan to attract additional high quality matches and events to the region following the recent upgrade of the pitch. I am sure the future stars of Irish Rugby will be well supported, and it will be a fantastic occasion for all involved.”
Dates and kick-off times for the U20s 6 Nations fixtures will be confirmed in due course.

New brand for Region promotes success in Cork
Many of Cork’s landmark buildings including Irish Independent Park turned red this week to mark the launch of a new brand to promote all that is great about Cork.
As part of the initiative, the region’s stakeholders are backing the “We are Cork” brand. As the umbrella brand for Cork, it is envisaged that “We are Cork” will come to represent and promote the region internationally, nationally and locally.
