Six tries for Gavin Coombes so far this season.
Munster Rugby Defence Coach JP Ferreira and in-form Gavin Coombes spoke to the media remotely this week.
A product of Skibbereen RFC and Bandon Grammar, Coombes has made 19 appearances for the province over the past two years and has scored two tries in four games so far this season.
“It’s an opportunity I’ve been waiting a few years for so it’s about taking my opportunity while CJ is up in Irish camp,” said Coombes, who can play in the back row and the second row.
“The lads around me are playing magnificent rugby and it’s going great at the moment with four wins from four.
“It’s always been the gameplan to go out and express ourselves. Maybe the weather conditions don’t always allow for that. Last weekend [against Dragons] a few of those offloads did come off but we’re always looking to play that brand of rugby.”
Having progressed through the Greencore Munster Rugby Academy, the 22-year-old is eager to continue improving his game.
“I’m constantly watching every other player in my position because there is always something who can pick up and there’s always something you can improve on.
“Of course you need to focus on yourself as well and what you have that they don’t have.”
