Podcast | The Crooked Feed – Ged McNamara
20th January 2021 By The Editor
We spoke to Munster Rugby Head of Athletic Performance Ged McNamara for the latest episode of Munster’s official podcast, The Crooked Feed.
Ged was recently appointed as the province’s Head of Athletic Performance from his previous role as Greencore Munster Rugby Academy Lead Athletic Development Coach.
Ged held a variety of roles throughout his career, including starting out with Munster development and age-grade sides before applying his trade in a different sport with the Clare minor hurlers.
McNamara was also Lead Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Georgia national team up until the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.
On his new role, McNamara said:
“It entails a lot of stuff at the moment with the way things are going. So basically on a day-to-day, my job is to make sure that the athletic performance of the team is supplying the demand of what the game is needed, what the training is needed and what the rugby programme requires.
“It’s making sure that we’re fully aligned up, making sure that what we’re doing in the gym is going to make us a better rugby player or what we’re doing on the field is influencing some of our physiological characteristics as well. So basically it’s just making sure that all of the components of an S&C programme are aligned with the demands of a rugby programme.”
