Academy Update | Gar Prendergast Interview

We spoke to new Munster Rugby Academy & Pathway Manager Gar Prendergast earlier this month for his first interview since joining the province in July.

Gar is widely known across the Irish rugby landscape and holds a wealth of experience having coached numerous teams, working with All Ireland League and junior club sides for over 15 years.

Prior to joining Munster, he spent seven years as Young Munster RFC Director of Rugby.

Previous coaching roles include working with UL Bohemians RFC, Young Munster’s first XV men’s team, and Richmond RFC.

Speaking about his coaching career and his first few weeks, Prendergast said: “Coaching at Young Munster, Richmond and UL Bohs was a great experience and I was lucky enough to work with some fantastic coaches.

“Graham, the coaching team and all of the staff and players have been hugely supportive and welcoming since I started last month. I was lucky enough to coach with Leams [Denis Leamy] and Mossy [Lawler] previously and it’s been a very enjoyable first few weeks, it’s been busy and high octane but it’s been great.”
