Mary Tierney Fundraising For Children’s Grief Centre & Milford Care Centre
30th April 2024 By The Editor
Mary Tierney, wife of the great Tom Tierney, is walking the Camino del Norte Bilbao to Santander in May and is raising funds for the Children’s Grief Centre and Milford Care Centre.
A great servant to Munster and Irish Rugby, Tom is dearly missed having worked with the province’s Academy and National Talent Squad players before his sudden passing last year.
We were privileged to have Tom as a colleague and a friend. He brought a great energy and unique personality to his role, always ensuring the future of Munster Rugby was in safe hands.
See the fundraising page and donate if you can here.
A message from Mary and the Tierney Family
Just over a year ago we very suddenly lost the centre of our lives, my husband & their daddy, Tom.
With a simple and familiar kiss goodnight, neither of us knowing that this was to be our goodbye.
Just nine days later we also lost my own dad and their amazing grandad Dermot (dobs).
A person’s reaction to the loss of someone you never wanted or expected to ever live without is very personal you just do what your body tells you to do.
For my girls and I that very quickly revealed itself as a need to talk.
I’m grateful for that but a willingness to talk and having the tools to do it aren’t one and the same.
I have been attending grief counselling in Milford care centre Limerick for almost a year now and my girls have been wrapped in the protective arms of the children’s grief centre Limerick. The support we have received from these services (now friends) is something words can’t describe.
It is our hope to be able to give something back to those who have helped us in the last year, funds raised here will be used for this purpose.
I, together with friends, will walk the Camino del Norte Bilbao to Santander in May.
I decided to do this initially to simply spend time in my thoughts with Tom & my Dad but then saw it as a great opportunity to also raise funds for both of these tremendous organisations ( @childrensgriefcentre and @milfordcarecentre)
I would truly appreciate any support at all you feel able to offer.
The Children’s Grief Centre
The Children’s Grief Centre was founded in 2009. Since then we have been providing free one to one support sessions to children and young people who have experienced a loss due to bereavement or parental separation.
Each year we support approximately 230 children and young people between the ages of 4 and 18. We also provide talks and workshops to the local and wider community to raise awareness around grief and loss.
Milford Care Centre
Milford Care Centre is not just a Hospice Inpatient Unit, it provides multiple services to the community. These include Hospice at Home services, a Nursing Home, Day Care for both the Older Person and people with palliative care needs.
They also offer Bereavement Support for families. Their staff work in conjunction with other health care professionals in the community.
