Leicester Limit Season Ticket Sales

Leicester are to limit the number of season ticket sales next season in order to comply with Heineken Cup regulations that force clubs to allocate 25 per cent of capacity to visiting teams.

But for a number of supporters giving up tickets to the recent quarter-final against Munster, Leicester would have lost the advantage of playing at Welford Road.

Now, to avoid future problems, Leicester are to limit season ticket holders to 11-12,000, about 1,000 short of this season’s total. The present capacity at Welford Road is fixed at 16,815.

The Heineken regulations are also a marketing device to encourage supporters to buy early, though publicity material is a little unfortunate. The brochure shows Tim Stimpson lining up a kick with the words: “I won’t miss it . . . neither should you.” Supporters will need no reminding that the full-back missed four kicks at goal when Munster won the quarter-final 20-7.
