Shannon ended Cork Constitution’s unbeaten run this season with a deserved 21-9 victory in the Final of the Munster Senior Club League at Musgrave Park.

Playing with the wind in the opening half, Pat McCarthy put Con’ ahead with a penalty in the seventh minute and Tom Cregan levelled minutes later, to leave the half time score 3-3 in a forgettable first half. A penalty a piece left the sides level 6-6 mid way through the second half.

Cregan put his stamp on the game, giving Shannon the lead with a penalty on 62 minutes and followed up with a great try minutes later, which he also converted for a 16-6 lead. McCarthy brought the Temple Hill side to within a score of Shannon with a penalty eleven minutes from time. Constitution laid siege to the Shannon line and some great defending kept the Limerick side’s line in tact.

A debatable penalty, eventually relieved the pressure in injury time and a quick break from their own half saw Brian Touhy make sure of victory with a second Shannon try.

They will meet Nenagh Ormond in the final after the Tipperary side defeated Thomond 18-15 in a dramatic contest at Fitzgerald Park.
