Big Shocks in Limerick Charity Cup

Holders Shannon made a shock exit from this season’s competition as a last minute penalty gave Young Munster an 8-7 victory.
There were major shocks in the opening games in the Limerick Charity Cup with both of last season’s finalists Shannon and Garryowen being defeated.
Nenagh Ormond making thier senior debut, lost at home to Thomond 17-3 and Bruff had a big 35-16 win over a disappointing Old Crescent side.
Sunday’s Well were very fortunate to defeat Cobh Pirates to book their place in next week’s quarter-finals of the Cork Charity Cup. Midleton received a walk over from Crosshaven as the Junior side were unable to field a side due to injuries received in a friendly game the week previous.
Clonmel and Thurles advanced to the semi-finals of the Mansergh Cup and Clanwilliam booked a quarter-final date with Cashel next week, after they defeated Carrick-on-Suir 29-3.
In the McElligott Cup, Tralee had an easy win at home to Abbeyfeale and Castleisland defeated Killarney 9-0.
No games took place in the quarter finals of the Galwey-Foley Cup.
