22nd August 2005 By Munster Rugby
Munster U.21’s played a Munster Development Selection in Tralee RFC on Tuesday night last. Brian Tuohy scored two tries for the Development Seelction, contributing to their 19-5 victory
Munster U.21 s travelled to Leicester at the weekend to play Leicester Tigers Academy in advance of the Interprovincial Series starting on September 3rd. Despite falling behind in the first minute of the game after Leicester converted a penalty, Munster came back with two on target penalties kicked by out half Conan Doyle, to give the visitors a 9-3 lead at half time. The first try of the game was a superb involving forwards and backs with Ian Hanly finishing off in the right hand corner. Although the conversion was missed, Munster followed up with another try ten minutes later when a quick ruck ball resulted in a break by scrum half Duncan Williams. Williams chipped the ball forward for Ian Hanly who was impeded by the covering Leicester players and the referee had no hesitation in awarding a penalty try to Munster. Brian Moran converted and although Leicester applied intense pressure on the Munster line, they held firm to win the game on a 21-3 scoreline.
The Munster U.21 team is coached by Buccaneer s Coach Geoff Moylan. David O Mahony (Dolphin RFC) and Paul Cunningham (Garryowen FC) are Assistant Coaches. The team is managed by Donal Brennan from Shannon RFC, with Ian Costello on board as Technical Advisor.
